This trip we spent three weeks staying with friends in Quito, visiting numerous
churches in the Colonial District part of Quito, and generally got in the way! We
traveled west into the cloud forests to stay in the very small town of Mindo and
hiked through mud and rain, and visited butterfly farms and hummingbird reserves;
we spent time hiking to the Devils Basket, and soaking in the thermal pools of
Banos. We visited friends in Guaranda; and watched cheese and chocolates being
made in Salinas. We again spent some time with Edwin and his family, whom we sponsor
through Children International. I did my equinox project with students at Colegio Menor
San Francisco de Quito. Our son John joined us so he and I could mountain climb together.
Sue and I then ended a wonderful trip by soaking in the thermal springs at Papallacta.
You would think that after a year I would have this done! It will be soon.
